Murder capital of the world

So in looking for a cheap place to stay in El Paso (on my 1st stop of the tour), I find Juarez, Mexico (hop, skip and a short dip away) has just surpassed Caracas, Venezuela as the Murder capitol of the world. Yay. Though I love camping (not), I see myself in a hotel room (with a dresser against the door). Though I don't see myself as being one of the next (quite unfortunate) 133 out off 100,000 people that DO get murdered, I'm not going to be a mere one tent zipper away from getting myself killed.
